Google Adwords "Impression Share" - A New Feature

By: Kamal Chandran

Google Adwords has a new feature now called Impression Share. This is a very important feature for the advertisers, it helps them know about the "Impression share" lost or gained from the competitors and also between campaigns in the account. Advertisers can gauge the competition by knowing about the amount of impressions taken away by the competitors.

Advertisers will be able to know about the"Impression Share" while they generate reports for 'campaigns' and 'account.' The percentage of share will be mentioned in the reports, for eg:- if the percentage is 15 for account performance report, then we have lost 85% of share to the competitors, if the percentage of impression share is 60%, then we have beaten our competition.

In my opinion this can also be related to "Market Share" in the following manner. "The share of market held by a company & share of online presense in Google Network" through Adwords.

"Impression share" is only available at the campaign level and Account level.

The following statement was taken from Google Adwords help centre, Impression share is a new metric that represents the percentage of times your ads were shown (i.e. your accrued impressions) out of the total number of page impressions (i.e. pages where your ad appeared or could have appeared) in the market you were targeting."

This feature is available through the Report Center, impression share can be used to gain insight into your AdWords campaign's share of voice.

The Good thing about Google, is its ability to come up with new and interesting features in a very short span of time.
